IN THE WORD THIS WEEK

TGPSundays – The Gospel Project: The Bible is not simply a collection of stories. It is one story of God’s plan to rescue His people from sin and death. It is the story of redemption, the gospel message of Jesus Christ. And it’s our story too. Through this Christ-centered chronological study of the Bible, we’ll see how all Scripture gives testimony to Jesus. We’ll discover the big picture of what God has been doing throughout redemptive history and what that means for us today. We’ll also examine major Bible doctrines as they are revealed in Scripture.

Life-in-6-Words-Main-300x175Wednesday Youth Group – Life in 6 Words: In this 7 week video series, we’ll explore the main components of the Gospel. The goals are to clearly understand the gospel, personally accept the gospel, and be equipped to boldly articulate the gospel. The video utilizes the viral video – Life in 6 Words.

For Discussion: (Romans 3:10-12; Ephesians 2:8-9)

  1. One example sometimes used to illustrate our sin situation is putting icing on a burnt cake. If the cake is burnt, no matter how pretty we make it look on the outside, deep down inside, when you bite into it, it’s still going to be a burnt cake. How is this like our lives, sin, and our insufficient human attempts to deal with our sin?
  2. Jesus’ story of the Prodigal describes two distinct human tendencies when relating to God. Which best describes you?
    1. The Younger Brother – setting out on your own to find happiness and satisfaction apart from God.
    2. The Older Brother – trying to earn God’s acceptance and approval through your good deeds.
  3. How might knowing your own tendencies help you cultivate a healthier relationship with God?
  4. Challenge for the week: Ask a friend how they believe a person gets to Heaven. Listen, ask questions, get the conversation going. Share what you believe about Jesus’ teaching that we can’t earn our way into God’s acceptance – that the price is too high to be paid by good deeds.
