One of my greatest joys in ministry is working with our leaders, both youth and adults. It’s also one of my greatest responsibilities, as pastors are charged “to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.” (Ephesians 4:11-12)  This past weekend our family hosted a fellowship time with both our adult and teen leaders at our house.  As you can see, we had a lot of fun, with a western twist.

IN THE WORD THIS WEEK:

Proverbs

Sunday School – “Proverbs: During the month of September, we will be taking a survey of practical wisdom found in Proverbs. With specific application in mind, we’ll see how God’s wisdom is the best way to live.

  • Key Passage: Proverbs 16-18
  • This week we learned a few simple steps to help us translate ancient proverbs into our daily lives:
  1. State the biblical truth
  2. Summarize the proverb in your own words
  3. Site an example from everyday life

Follow-up Discussion: (use these to talk with your teen about what they’re learning)

  • What proverb/verse did you work on?
  • What was your everyday example?
  • How can you put this into action in your life?

Break the BankWednesday Youth Group: This year our lessons will revolve around examining the evidence and claims of Jesus Christ, so that we can know and love Him better, follow Him more faithfully, and boldly share Him with our friends. In our first miniseries, “Break the Bank – Christ Offers All”, we will learn how Christ gave up everything for our sake, and that in Him we have everything to gain.

Lesson 3 of 4 – “How Extreme Are You?” We learned about the true cost of becoming a fully devoted follower of Christ, and were challenged to count the cost and commit.

Memory Verse: Matthew 16:24-25

Follow-Up Discussion: (use these to talk with your teen about what they’re learning)

  1. What does extreme Christianity look like to you?
  2. What is it that keeps you from becoming an extreme follower of Christ?
  3. What specific priorities in your life need to change in order for you to put Christ first?
  4. Something special: here are 2 videos we shared in group tonight:
