Costa Rica Mission Trip July 11-17


Why Costa Rica?

Costa Rica is an adventurer’s paradise, known for its stunning beaches and beautiful rainforests. Outside of the tourist destinations, however, are large pockets of poverty and family brokenness throughout the nation.

About Costa Rica:

  • Language – Spanish
  • Population – Approximately 4.95 million,
  • Economy: Stronger than most of the neighboring countries.
    • Tourism is a big contributor to the Costa Rica economy but creates income gaps.
    • Major exports include coffee, bananas, and pineapples.
  • Health & Nutrition:
    • Has greatly reduced the incidence of diseases associated with tropical climates as well as waterborne diseases.
  • Religion – Roman Catholic.
    • 85% claim to be Catholic/Christian.
    • 10% considered “nonreligious”
    • 5% considered “other” religious beliefs
  • All of that to say – Costa Rica still has a great need.

Ministry Opportunities:

While in Costa Rica, we will be partnering with local ministries and joining them in:

  • Children’s Ministry: Sharing God’s love with children and local youth through games, songs, stories, and sports.
  • Work Projects: Helping with light constructions, cleaning, and yard work, where needed.
  • Evangelism: We will take time to meet the people and listen as they share their stories. We will be an encouragement as we share about Jesus and the life He offers to all people.


  • We will be staying at the AIM base in San Jose which includes:
    • Bunkbeds
    • Bathrooms with hot showers
    • Kitchen facilities where our meals will be prepared
    • And Wifi!


  • Passports: All participants must have a valid US Passport Book. Apply ASAP, as it may take 4-6* weeks to receive. The cost for first time passport applicants is $145 (not included in trip price). Applications are available at (If your passport expires within 6 months of our trip departure it must be renewed.)
  • Immunizations/Medications:
    • Influenza and Malaria (Repellent w/20-50% Deet and/or Permethrin to treat cloths)
    • Tetanus toxoid (DT) or Tetanus/Diphtheria (Td)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella
    • Varicella/Varivax (chicken pox)
    • Typhoid immunization
    • Hepatitis A/B

  • Finances:
    • Approximately $1900
    • Fundraising will be required.
    • A $100 deposit is due at the first training to secure your spot.
  • Application & Trainings:
    • Students who are completing grades 8-12 are eligible to apply,
    • Applications are due Friday, March 6, 2020. Apply online at
    • The Youth Ministry Team will then review all applications and build the team. All applicants will be notified in writing.
    • Required trainings are on the following Sundays, in the Youth Center, from 12:30-2:30 pm:
      • March 22
      • April 19
      • April 26 = Pasta Dinner Fund Raiser (Set up 4/25)
      • May 10
      • June 14

  • Those interested in participating must complete the application linked below.
  • The deadline for applications is Friday, March 6, 2020.
  • The Student Ministry Team will review all applications and approve the team.
  • All applicants will be notified in writing.
  • A deposit of $100 is due at the first training to secure a spot on the trip.
